People fortunate enough to spend time in the ‘West Mac’ Ranges seem to return from their day trips or camping experiences refreshed, relaxed and quite simply, awe inspired by the natural beauty they’ve seen.
We like to think of the West Mac Ranges as the perfect antidote to a stressful, busy city life.
If you like the idea of seeing some of the world’s most stunning landscapes and being surrounded by nothing but clean air, rock pools and unique flora and fauna, then pack your bags – the West Mac Ranges await!
The ranges themselves can be reached easily by car (4WD) and there are a number of local tour operators who also run day trips and camping experiences to the region. The time taken to reach various parts of the ranges depends on where you elect to visit but as a rough guide, to reach most areas of the ranges you will be looking at a few hours drive.
When in the West Macs we recommend checking out the following:
- Standley Chasm
- Simpsons Gap
- Ellery Creek Big Hole
- Owen Springs
- Ormiston Gorge and,
- Finke Gorge
Closer to town there is also the opportunity to check out:
- Araluen Cultural Precinct
- Alice Springs Desert Park
